SIMONE

As part of Irish Bioeconomy Week, SIMONE is proud to support an interactive workshop that dives deep into the future of recycled fertilisers in Ireland. Hosted on Wednesday, October 15 at the University of Limerick, this event brings together key stakeholders to co-create a more circular and resilient agricultural sector.

📍 Location: University of Limerick

🕤 Time: 9:30 – 14:00

🎟️ Registration: Free via this link

Why This Matters for SIMONE

At SIMONE, we’re focused on smarter nutrient use and reducing waste across Europe. Recycled fertilisers are a vital part of that strategy. Ireland, like many regions, faces nutrient deficits while valuable nutrients are lost elsewhere. This workshop is a hands-on opportunity to explore how recycled nutrients can be scaled up, supported by policy, and adopted on farms.

The event also responds to Europe’s fertiliser vulnerability—highlighted by recent price shocks and supply disruptions. By imagining new market pathways, we can reduce dependency on fossil-based imports and build a more secure, circular nutrient economy.

What You’ll Experience

Through a dynamic Futures Market Scenario Sprint, participants will:

  • Envision the recycled fertiliser market in 2035
  • Identify key policy frameworks, supply chain innovations, and trust-building strategies
  • Explore farm-level adoption and national policy challenges
  • Co-design actionable strategies for a viable, inclusive market
  • No prior expertise is required - just curiosity and a willingness to collaborate.

This workshop is co-hosted with the Interreg ReNu2Cycle project (in which MTU is actively involved), alongside the University of Limerick, The Irish Nutrient Sustainability Platform, University of Galway, and Queens University Belfast - reflecting the all-island approach needed to build a thriving market for recycled nutrients.
